I am beyond stoked to announce our first drop. We’ve teamed up with Hip Hop legend Nas, who is dropping two songs on royal on January 11.
For the first time ever, people will be able to own a part of Nas’ music by buying limited digital assets (LDAs), which are tokens with embedded streaming royalty rights.
The songs, both released via Nas’ independent label Mass Appeal, are:
“Ultra Black” — the lead single from the artist’s 2021 Grammy Award winning-album King’s Disease. Drops Jan 11 at 1pm ET / 10am PT
“Rare” — a single from follow-up 2022 Grammy Award-nominated album, King’s Disease II, both released via Nas’s independent label Mass Appeal. Drops Jan 11 at 9pm ET / 6pm PT
It’s an incredible affirmation of our mission that Nas is the first artist to sell music as art through royal. Beyond his Hip Hop legendary status, Nas also has a longstanding history as a crypto enthusiast, investing in Coinbase and many other companies and protocols that are essential to the crypto ecosystem.
1/ Ultra Black: Tuesday, Jan 11 at 1pm ET / 10am PT
A limited supply of 760 tokens total will be available for Ultra Black. The drop is first come, first served.
2/ Rare: Tuesday, Jan 11 at 9pm ET / 6pm PT
Keeping the post-Grammy momentum, Nas and Hit-boy return with the lead single “Rare” off of King’s Disease II. The song shows that Nas is in rare form, cementing his spot as a veteran that’s still at the top of his game.
A limited supply of 1,110 tokens total will be available for Rare. The drop is first come, first served.
Pay for tokens with credit card or crypto
Tokens minted during royal’s first drop will be on the Polygon network, which allows users to transact with significantly less gas fees and wait times. Tokens can be paid for with a credit card or crypto (Polygon USDC). Paying with credit card will be as easy as checking out on any e-commerce website. For those who wish to use crypto, we’ve provided guidelines in our help center here.
More to come
There is a huge opportunity to revolutionize the music industry. We believe shifting power to artists and democratizing ownership is a powerful step. Get ready for the Nas drop on Tuesday, and stay tuned for more drops from royal coming soon!
